Oceans Week
About Oceans Week
Oceans Week celebrates our oceans in a week of hands on science and art. Each year the Oceans Week PTO lead partners with teachers and staff to select a theme that becomes the focus for the week. Past themes include Celebrating Cephalopods, The Farallon Islands, and The Cretaceous Period. An exciting week is created for Farallone View students based on the theme, with daily science activities or assemblies, a schoolwide art project, and silk screened t-shirts.

Oceans Week Art

Farallone View's tradition of school wide art projects for Oceans Week began decades ago, in the 1990s, with murals painted on the exterior school walls. Most of those murals were removed during recent campus modernization efforts, but the PTO photographed all of the murals to preserve them. You can browse the gallery of murals below.
In recent years, murals have been painted on other surfaces like wooden canvases that were later installed in the outdoor classroom or, most recently in 2025, the handball wall on the lower grades playground. In 2024 students painted a "school of fish," with each student painting their own unique fish to hang on the fencing of the upper grades playground. The fish were created by Half Moon Bay High School students, who with great dedication prepared more than 150 of them!

Oceans Week T-Shirts
Each year FV students silk-screen a keepsake Oceans Week t-shirt. The t-shirt design is student-created. Students submit drawings representing the year's Oceans Week theme in April. Local artists select the winning entry, and the design is transferred to a silk screen. Students then hand print their shirt themselves the Friday before Oceans Week with the support of parent volunteers. The FV PTO provides shirts for all students, teachers and staff.
